Mission

Beyond Barriers Athletic Foundation promotes healthy lifestyles, improves personal safety, and adds structure for lifelong achievement by providing scholarships for aquatic programs to underserved youth.

“I want to say thank you, because my life would not be as amazing without swimming. It makes my school life better; it makes my whole life better because of this opportunity. ” -Katelyn, BBAF Swimmer

Who We Serve

BBAF serves children between 0 to 18 years of age who are members of a “low income” family. Generally defined as having a combined household income of less than 300% of the designated Federal Poverty Level for the community, and who reside in our neighborhoods in need.

The CDC lists drowning as the leading cause of unintended death for US children ages one to four and the second leading cause for children under 14.

According to a USA Swimming Foundation survey, two-thirds of African-American children, nearly half of Latino and four in ten white kids have little to no swimming ability. Nearly eight in ten children from households earning less than $50,000 per year have little to no swimming ability. The families we serve need access to a local pool and ease of funding for these vital lessons for the safety of their children.

BBAF’s programs are located at neighborhood providers and pools who partner with us.

If you are interested in a swim scholarship, please reach out to one of our local providers or contact us.
